Already in October 1945 opened the Opera now named "New Stadttheater" with "Figaro's Marriage"; the council took the decision in 1950 for a reconstruction of the opera and at the Kieler Woche 1953 the Haus at the Kleinen Kiel - like in 1907 - reopened with "Fidelio".

The old building combined Art Nouveau elements of sandstone with clinker and granite. The Opera suffered during the 2nd World War grave destructions. It has been rebuilt in the fifties in the old architectural style. Opera, operettas, ballets and musicals have found their playground at the Opera.
